The Who's legendary John Entwistle gives a personal bass lesson that covers fingering, licks, octave style, chords, hammer-ons, pull-offs, picking techniques, harmonics, soloing concepts, walking bass lines, string-bending, and phrasing-all in the famous Entwistle style. Here is a unique chance to learn from the man who wrote the book when it comes to rock 'n' roll electric bass.

Customer Rating: Summary: GREAT BASSIST! NOT SO GREAT BASS DVD! Comment: I have been playing bass for over 30 years and I have always admired John Entwistle's bass playing. I never studied his style or anyone else's for that matter and I learned to play just by listening to the songs I wanted to learn. I picked this DVD up to see if I could learn a trick or two and get some kind of insight on this musical genius's playing style. Well, your not going to learn much from this DVD, unless your just starting out and then watching this might discourage you! It's basically John noodling around for a half hour or so and nothing I didn't already know. It's interesting to watch a couple of times, but not anything you need to own. John Entwistle was one of the greatest bassist to ever play and it's a shame we will never get a true insight to his incredible talent.
Customer Rating: Summary: fugedaboudit Comment: Save your money unless you want to watch a bored Entwhistle go through the motions demonstrating his eccentric style.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Fan of Entwistle, but not this DVD Comment: How disappointed I was to watch this wasted effort. So much more could have been done to actually give some insight into Entwistles playing that was just frittered away with what is basically an interview and some rambling licks that do nothing to really give us any true insight into the thinking behind the playing.
Where is the instruction? It isn't here. Sadly, now, we can't rectify this because John is no longer living to make a truly worthwhile instructional video.
Pass to the other side of the road on this one.
Customer Rating: Summary: A great inside look at the Ox Comment: Not so great as a beginning lesson, but outstanding for Entwhistle fans. It's a fascinating inside look by the master himself. It was made during the "slap" craze and he reminds us that there are alternatives to slapping, which is kind of interesting historically as well. This DVD is useful, interesting and collectable. Better buy it if you like Entwhistle.
It was transfered from video, so it ain't high-def.
Highly recommended for Entwhistle fans, beginners should find a primer instead.
Customer Rating: Summary: I Don't Even Play Bass.... Comment: and I found this DVD interesting. There are insights about how he played that I, as a fan of his playing, which you must be if you're bothering to read this, found enlightnening, especially regarding his "country western" influence. (HA! HA! Now you're curiosity is piqued and you HAVE to buy it. Hey Amazon, do I get a commission?).
I can only imagine how this DVD would benefit someone who does play bass guitar.
