D'addario pays more to have their ball ends precision turned from solid brass stock. The edges have radii that prevent the ball end from cutting into wooden bridges or guitar tops. Each string is twisted to perfection right down to the three neatly wrapped "lock twists." And those lock twists help keep their plain steel strings from unraveling or breaking prematurely. Each and every spool of precision drawn high carbon steel wire D'addario uses goes through three quality control tests before it becomes a set of D'addario strings. Pioneering innovative string design has been a D'Addario family tradition for nine generations. Most guitar players don't realize that the inner core wire in ALL D'Addario steel strings is made from carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel wire. The six "edges" of the core wire bite into the softer wrap wire, securing it all along its length.

Customer Rating: Summary: Bright tone for flatwounds Comment: I love these strings. I've tried the more expensive imported brands of flatwounds and found the tone to be good but too warm/mellow for my tastes. These are readily available, affordable, and have great long lasting tone. The guages are a bit heavier than most strings but still feel great because they are very polished (chromed). The tone is also brighter and rounder than most flatwounds I've played. Great for jazz, surf, and British Invasion sounds.
Customer Rating: Summary: worst strings I've ever owned in over 40 years of playing Comment: I bought 4 sets of these. The wound 3rd string broke on every set in a short time. One 1st string broke when I was stretching it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very very nice play Comment: I play a Gibson ES-335 and these strings have made my playing much more enjoyable. A nice tone a Gibson semi-hollowbody deserves yet you can still put some bend to them. A perfect flatwound for anyone into the whole flatwound thing. Not recommended for anyone looking for a die hard rock sound.
