Customer Rating: Summary: If you have a problem with the low strings.... Comment: I have bought three of these, and am about to buy another. All still work, I give them as gifts, sometimes.
I have had no problems with the tuner. It performs quite well, but....
I had to make a modification. I play steel acoustic, nylon acoustic, electric standard, and electric bass. The low strings were hard to tune until I removed one of the rubber pads in the clamp area. The pads are there to give a better grip. I removed the stationary pad since, duh, rubber is a sound isolator. Direct contact with the guitar allows tuning my Yamaha bass low E string with no problems at all. If you are worried about scratching the finish on your baby, put on a piece of masking tape.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works for mandolin, not guitar or banjo Comment: I bought one of these yesterday to use on my guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Today it belongs to our band's mandolin player. Why? Because it will not pick up the low-D on a 5-string banjo, or the low E on a guitar, regardless of where I placed it on the headstock. It picked up all strings on a mandolin. The high G (5th string) on the banjo would display for about one second when struck but then would disappear. On the positive side, unlike the Intelli MT500, this tuner is very accurate and is FAST - no lag in displaying the offset so you can tune accurately and quickly. I just wish it were more sensitive.
Customer Rating: Summary: Outstanding tuner! Great for a new musician. Comment: Coming from someone who is new to musical instruments, this tuner is outstanding. I have seen others that are more complex, and have more features that I will likely never use. To simply tune my instrument, this tuner is tops. It is as easy as clipping it on (a padded clamp protects your instrument from scratches), playing a note, and looking on the screen to see if there are three arrows on either side of the note. The display will look something like this if you're playing a C and it is in tune:
>>>C<<<
When there are two or less arrows on one or both sides, you're sharp or flat, so keep tuning! I use this on my ukulele, and it is nice and small and portable, making it great for when you're on-the-go. You can tune in a noisy room as well, even when the acoustics are crummy -- making it a better investment than a pitch pipe or similar gadget.
Excellent value for an excellent product!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great! Comment: I picked up two of these, one for personal use (PT2) and one for a friend's birthday present (PT1). I've yet to have a problem using mine, and haven't heard anything negative from my friend about his.
This replaced my old quartz tuner that I fought with when trying to tune my guitar. With the old tuner you had to have a room that was perfectly quiet, the Intellitouch PT1 (or PT2) tunes perfectly in a noisy room. The backlight display on the PT1 helps in low light situations, and it's compact and clip on design makes it easy to carry around and just clip it on. It also folds back out of the way so you can leave it clipped on for easy retuning between songs.
I highly recommend this product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Tuner Comment: Simple. Easy to use. I got it because I play in an acoustic guitar ensemble. With 10 guys tuning up at the same its hard to use a tuner that works from a mic. This one clips on the head of the guitar and works from vibrations of the guitar body. Works great.
