Customer Rating: Summary: CURT MITCHELL is the funniest guitar teacher ever Comment: im watching the VH video. Curt Mitchell is freakin hilarious this guy! Watch all of the little fidgety hand movements hes doing while he talks. If you could only see the guitar licks as well as his litte gestures this would be the best video ever. He rubs his 80's mullet about 1001 times. At one point i noticed him taking his wedding band on and off LOL i mean, what do you suppose he's on? I guess hes trying TOO MUCH to be like Eddie hehehehe
Customer Rating: Summary: I like this series,BUT NOT THIS ONE. Comment: This is normally a great series, but this one is the worst. This is the first one in the "In The Style Of" series. All he does is play excerpts from Van Halen leads and he doesn't slow half of them down. The ones he does are still not slow enough.I can recognize songs by the intro, but it can be hard to do this to just the lead.I have heard that the Van Halen Volume 2 video focuses more on rhythms. If it does, get that one instead.
Customer Rating: Summary: Look before you buy!!!! Comment: I have had this VHS tape for a year or so and must say it is very hard to grasp, if youre just starting to play the guitar. I have been playing for about 15 years now and this is difficult for me to fallow through the riffs. I also agree with some of the other reviews that there is no explanation to the riffs there just that riffs. Another down fall that has been so over looked in this video is you cant see the right hand AND THAT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT as what your left had is doing. The scales and chords are not even well written in that chicken scratch they call a book supplied with the tape. I highly recommend to any person wanting to get Eddies sound in your gear you first lean from a good tab book and buy the CD or get some MP3s from the net and learn the songs you like. This video is not of good sound quality either. I mean I have to turn my TV way up to hear it. The only good thing I got from it was the use of a delay, flanger, and a phase shifter. Thats about it, and all you need to really know to get the sound right. All that rack equipment is so not necessary for a beginner and confuses the issue. And folks please do not try re configuring your amps. You can buy several tube petals on the market that will make a solid state amp sound like a Messa Boggie on steroids. But you also have to realize this tape is a bit dated to. Now if you are a Van Hallen nut like me, then this tape is kinda cool but I would defiantly say it has its drawbacks for a beginner trying to learn that sound and technique and would not condone it as a good example of Eddies playing style.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not for the timid Comment: If you love vh, and have been playing guitar long enough to pick some things up by ear, this tape WILL HELP YOU! It shows 50 popular riffs you'll all recognize, even the ones you couldn't quite figure out before. REMEMBER, there are no shortcuts, you will STILL need to practice!!! "Play like vh while you sleep" it's not. But an excellent tool in demonstrating and applying the vh style. video quality- could be better, sound quality- pretty good, curt mitchell- impressive, but without a doubt, an 80's burnout.
