Customer Rating: Summary: If you have a Digitech GNX4, you need this book! Comment: For those of us that are crunched for time and can't always spend hours discovering new features of products, this book is a Godsend for those of us who own the GNX4. It really helps explain in plainer terms how to use this incredible, feature-laden tool. The included CD-ROM is especially useful as it has both tutorials and files you need for different features like programming drum beats. Simply put, if you own the GNX4, you should buy this book. Period.
Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely Outstanding! Comment: The GNX4 has a pretty good manual, as far as factory manuals go.
However Craig has a writing style that has made this monster a LOT easier to understand and implement. The writing keeps you interested. It's not dry like most factory manuals are.
Everyone needs to buy two additional things when they get a Digitech GNX4:
1. The MXF Supermodels.
2. This book.
It'll be the best $130 you ever spent if you really want to learn and utilize the GNX4 to it's fullest extent.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Very usefull Guide :-) Comment: This book expands on the instruction book that comes with the GNX4. The instruction book is a bit hard to get my head around at times. This book does a great job of clarifying a lot about the use of the GNX4, a complex piece of technology. Maybe not for hardcore users that fully understands it's operation, but good for someone like me who is still learning.
The only thing it doesn't have (which I was hoping for) was a method of keeping volume consistant while increasing gain with the expression pedal. Oh well, you can't have everything, yet this manual may help me understand possibilities.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great resource for us newbies Comment: I am a "hobbyist" guitarist who doesn't have a lot of time to devote to deciphering the intricacies of the user manual and posting forum questions, so this book was just what I needed. I'm in it for the fun only and needed something easy to understand and apply without doing a lot of research. For those in a similar position, this book is a great start.
The title, "The Power User's Guide" may be a bit misleading and a better title might be "Getting Started With..." In any case, I am happy with the book and it didn't cost a lot of money. Thank's Craig, it was just what I needed!
Customer Rating: Summary: Comments from the author Comment: I don't want to sound defensive, but this book was intended to help out the vast numbers of guitar players who simply could not make it through the GNX4 manual, and weren't getting the most out of the device. While I respect the reviewer's opinion that it doesn't address a more advanced audience, in the interest of balance, I wanted to present some comments about the book that were posted on DigiTech's forum regarding the GNX4.
From Guitar3456:
I just got it in today. Well worth the money guys/gals. It's a GNX4 for Dummies type book with actual illustrations and usage diagrams for advanced settings/assignments/ pedal navigation. From mixer assignments (internal) to midi implementation..Recording tracks to MP3 usages it's in here. It's more refined than the owners manual for most of the subjects. Things like" How do I use all this stuff" is explained..step by step. It even illustrates how gating works. A nice visual to interpret what's going on...GREAT JOB CRAIG ANDERTON !!
From Strummin6:
Wow, nearly every question I've had so far is answered in detail in this book!
From SteveK:
This book is a must have, very detailed and presented in typical Craig Anderton style and thoroughness.
From Jer:
I am quite happy with mine too. Much more "How and Why" stuff. Manuals usually just tell you what the things do, without really enlightening you on why you may want to do it. This book is great!
From Digi-Ax:
Just got my copy a few days ago and I've inhaled the book. Definitely worth the money. For the most part it is the same info that's in the owner's manual, so I frankly didn't learn much new about the GNX itself. BUT it's the same info phrased a different way, so it did clear up some fuzzy areas for me and definitely serves to inspire some new experimentations.
Where it's helped me most is in the explanations of the bundled software. Who knew X-Edit did so many cool things? Not me, until now.
From SteveK:
I know I can speak for all - [Craig] really did a wonderful job on the GNX4 Power User's Guide - with lots of insight and tips on unlocking the unit to its full potential that is beyond the basics.
From Guitarzen:
Great, readable book.
